Jobs and Skill Levels
We have seen reports relating to the mismatch of skill requirements in our workforce. In other words, the majority of job seekers do not have the necessary skills and experience for the jobs that are available. This may be true in a number of cases, but information from our database shows that there are a growing number of skilled job seekers in the Cayman Islands.
It is important to note that skills in isolation will not guarantee high performance as there are other elements of human behavior that are needed to ensure sustainable employment. These are a) Interpersonal skills, b) General Deportment (appearance and hygiene), c) Discipline and Respect and d) Time Management and Punctuality. These skills which are sometimes absent complement academic skills and will greatly improve the employee’s ability to secure sustainable employment.
As efforts are made to develop trade schools in order to increase the levels of experience and academic skills, we must pay attention to the other personals skills as mentioned above.
Solution 2
Employers are encouraged to include this level of skill training in their respective company’s orientation process and also to support local initiatives that seek to educate Job Seekers on these sometimes forgotten important skills.
